Sony’s Xperia Touch projector - surfaces into touchscreens

The time has come for you to turn your doors, walls, and cabinets into touchscreens. Sony unveiled its Xperia touch projector at Mobile World Congress back in Feb, and now, it’s bringing the device to the us. It’s available through Amazon and prices $1,699.99. it will even be available in select T-Mobile stores in Chicago, la, and Miami, as well as within the Sony sq. display room in ny city.

Sony says it envisions the Xperia touch serving as a family hub. Users will view calendar events, weather information, and a memo board, wherever they will leave notes for family members to see. they will also access Skype video chats and leave video notes. It’s equipped with a 13-megapixel camera.

The projector runs android nougat, so it will anything an android tablet can do, together with net browsing, watching videos, and downloading apps from the Google Play Store. It should last about an hour on its charge, Sony says, although you’ll plug it in through its USB-C port.

While i do not necessarily purchase that this projector can revolutionize the home, the idea of families gathering around an interactive screen sounds nice. i know some parents are mindful of how often they’re on their phones in front of their children, and are conscious of how much time their children spend staring at phones and tablets. at least this way, no one has to have private time with a screen and can instead broadcast what they are doing to the whole house.

Amazon Alexa Voice Profiles -

Amazon’s Alexa can now recognise different voices and give responses

Your Echo just got smart enough to tell you apart from the people you live with The battle of the smart speakers has become a constant back and forth between Amazon and Google. Back in April, Google Home gained the ability to recognize individual voices, that allows the device to personalize its response for everybody in your house or apartment. This way, you’ll get your calendar briefing or curated music playlists when asking Assistant for them, and Google won’t mix up contacts when you call someone with the home speaker. Today, Amazon declared that Alexa will currently do the same thing.

You can set up voice recognition using the Echo, Echo Dot, or Echo Show. Users are asked to read aloud 10 phrases, and Alexa will then use that information to create a voice profile. after that’s done, voice profiles work across other Echo devices and “most” third-party party Alexa-enabled devices.

“Once you set up the feature, Alexa will learn your voice (versus your pouse/partner/roommate’s voice) and be ready to deliver a more personalized experience,” a company spokesperson told. “Today the feature is available for calling/messaging, flash briefing, shopping, and therefore the Amazon Music Unlimited Family plan, and it’ll be rolling out to additional Alexa features within the future.” Amazon says voice recognition will get “smarter over time” the more it’s used. the company also notes that touch-to-talk devices (i.e. fire TV remote and therefore the Amazon Tap) don’t support voice profiles.

Omron's table tennis robot | OMRON’s updated ping pong robot

It’s CEATEC, so I knew Omron would once again bring out its huge table tennis robot to belittle us humans, but what I did not expect was a major performance jump this time. Forpheus, currently at its fourth generation, features improved AI to spice up its responsiveness — such a lot that it will currently predict and attempt to deal with smashes. Compared to the earlier versions that went simple on me, I found this one to be much more enjoyable with faster rallies. Better yet, there is currently a companion robot arm that throws a ball up and lets Forpheusserve, therefore making the robot a more realistic trainer or opponent.

The rest of the robot is apparently the same as before. you continue to get a display on each side of the “net” for showing the player’s status (not that the robot has to see it). there’s a three-camera system facing the human player within the main body, and also the bat below it’s driven by 3 arms plus a 5-axis motor. These are all powered by a massive motion controller computer Sat behind the stage. Forpheus

While Omron does not actually provide Forpheusas a product, the robot does help showing off the company’s mechanical and automation prowess to potential industrial clients. Still, I hope Forpheus will get to make a cameo look at the 2020 olympics, because at this rate, it’ll likely be able to sustain interesting games against the top athletes by then.

Best free email program for Your Windows PC

We all like web-mail services like Gmail or Outlook Mail for their convenience, accessibility, ease of use and most of all, they are free to use! there is nothing like having access to all your emails from any browser virtually anytime, anywhere.

It’s a different story when you go offline though. It’s fantastic that you simply will fetch all of your emails from a web|an online} browser but when you lose your internet connection, you can’t retrieve your mailbox. want to see an important email sent to your Gmail 2 days ago? without an internet connection, you can’t.

Macs and Windows ten PCs have inbuilt email programs in safari and Windows Mail but they are not full-featured clients. Windows 10’s Mail program does not even support local email storage. If you are a power user looking for a solidly designed, feature-packed email program that supports local backups of all of your email accounts, then Mozilla’s free thunderbird client is definitely the one for you!

Mozilla thunderbird

Thunderbird has been around for years currently and has always been one of the top go-to free third-party email clients for tech-savvy mac and pc users. it’s from Mozilla, the same company that makes Firefox, one of the most effective web browsers around.

Upon opening thunderbird, you will be surprised how sleek and simple the interface is. like any different client, you get an inbox and folder pane, a messages pane and a calendar pane. Under-the-hood tho’, you get a customizable junk filter, automatic e-mail scam/spam protection and even antivirus program integration.

Additionally, it’s a powerful search function and support for tabs, tags, customized folders, and contacts. Speaking of contacts, thunderbird also has a built-in client support for instant messaging services together with Facebook Chat, Google Hangouts and Twitter.

Setting up multiple email accounts in thunderbird is straightforward enough. If you are adding an account from one of the massive email providers like Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook, simply enter your email account credentials and thunderbird can search and configure your mailboxes automatically. And like i mentioned earlier, you save local copies of all of your webmail accounts for offline access.

Add-ons

Although thunderbird is extremely useful on its own, what makes it very powerful is its support for tons of add-ons, themes and extensions. similar to Firefox add-ons, these are very little programs that may add extra functions to your default thunderbird experience.

For example, the Lightning extension allows you to integrate multiple calendars, schedules, to-do lists, and events. or you will try the add-on “Enigmail” that may add secure message encryption to your emails.

Download instructions

To download the program, navigate to the thunderbird home page or use the blue link buttons below. Click the massive green “Free Download” button on the middle of the screen.

When the download is complete, run the installation file as usual. Note that the install wizard can automatically choose thunderbird as your default mail application. you’ll be able to uncheck this box if you only wish to use thunderbird as your secondary email client.

Using the standard installation options can automatically add a shortcut to thunderbird in your startup menu, your desktop and your Windows toolbar. If you are doing not wish to do that, select Custom installation, then uncheck these options.

When thunderbird launches, you can immediately start configuring your email accounts. It even offers a free email account from Gandi.net but that is entirely optional. As mentioned earlier, if you are setting up an account with a major email provider then it’ll be a breeze – it’ll be done automatically. If not, contact your email supplier for your email server settings.

103-year-old grand prix car saved with highly-unexpected approach - MyPage

Do you know how 3-D printers work? You style a virtual 3-D image, or scan an existing object, and send it to a 3-D printer. It then prints out your image, one layer at a time.

Typically, it is a photo-reactive resin that prints out as a liquid that hardens. It’s very superb technology. Now, this innovative tech is being used to save a one-of-a-kind car that is over a century old.

How modern technology is saving pieces of history
What we’re talking regarding is a grand prix car that’s 103 years old. The engine block of the classic vehicle cracked some years ago and caused water to pump out of its exhaust system.

It’s the only Delage Type-S grand prix car known to still be on the earth. that makes it not possible to find replacement components when something goes bad.

That’s where modern technology was able to come to the rescue.

The car was consigned to a mechanic’s workshop in Australia to see what they could do to fix it. They turned to a pre-war motorcar engineer to find a way to build the 16-valve engine.

He came up with the thought of cloning the original engine block with digital technology. They scanned inside and out of the engine block with lasers. The scans were used to digitally repair the engine on a pc before making a sand mold with a 3-D printer.

The process really worked and therefore the Delage is operational again. Watch this video to check how the 3-D process took shape:

This repair is actually superb, particularly since the original engine blueprint is no longer around. It’s nice knowing that today’s high-tech innovations will facilitate us hold on to pieces of our past.

Project Loon — the balloon delivered net project that started life as a part of Google and currently calls Alphabet’s X “innovation lab” home — has moved one step nearer to becoming a part of the relief efforts in Puerto RICO. On September twenty ninth the X team same it was looking into ways to assist Puerto RICO with Project Loon, similar to the approach it helped give service in Peru after extreme rains and flooding struck the state in March. However, Loon had already been testing with Telefonica in Peru, that sped up the process.

In a report issued yesterday (PDF), the FCC said 83 % of cell sites in Puerto RICO are still out of service, along with 57 % within the us Virgin Islands and 100% in St. John. FDA approves first Zika Virus test for blood donations | My Page

FDA approves first test for screening Zika virus in blood donations

While the Zika virus is primarily transmitted by mosquito bites, it might also be passed through blood transfusion. to ensure that nobody who wants transfusion within the USA gets infected, the USA Food and Drug Administration has approved the first test that can screen Zika in blood donations. The cobas Zika test will detect the virus' rna in plasma taken from donated blood and blood parts. It cannot be used to diagnose infection, but it will keep the country's blood supply Zika-free.

The FDA actually allowed some clinics to use the technique as an experimental method to screen blood donations back in 2016 when the virus started spreading in Puerto RICO. due to that testing period, the FDA was ready to prove that the test will indeed effectively and accurately spot the virus. according to further tests in 5 external laboratories, its clinical specificity (or the frequency in negative results in uninfected subjects) is 99 %. currently that it's officially been approved, clinics and hospitals around the country will use it to make sure their blood supply won't infect anyone with the virus.

FDA Center for Biologics evaluation and director of research Peter Marks said during a statement:

"Today's action represents the first approval of a Zika virus detection test for use with screening the nation's blood supply. Screening blood donations for the Zika virus is critical to preventing infected donations from entering the U.S. blood supply. Today's approval is the result of a commitment by the manufacturer to work rapidly and collaboratively with the FDA and the blood collection industry to respond to a public health crisis and ensure the safety of blood in the U.S. and its territories."

ISS crew’s 360-degree video is the closest you’ll get to space | My Page

You can always count on the crew of the International space station to harness technology to bring us up to the heavens with them. Back in july, they uploaded enough footage to map the entire station out on Google Streetview. Today, the crew uploaded the first spacewalk recorded in 360-degree video. Immerse yourself in footage of mankind maintaining its farthest outpost at the border of space.

The video was made by the Russian space agency Roscosmos in collaboration with Russian news outlet RT. It shows cosmonauts Sergey Ryazansky and Fyodor Yurchikhin performing station maintenance and launching 3 nano-satellites into space during 7.5-hour spacewalk performed back in August. 2 of them, named Tanyusha, were created by students in Kursk. Another, the Tomsk-TPU one hundred twenty from the city of Tomsk, really broadcasts multilingual messages that amateur radio enthusiasts will listen to by tuning into frequencies 437.025 MHz and 437.05 MHz.

The video captures the cosmonauts tossing 3 of the little satellites into orbit, letting them fall into gravitational limbo as the massive earth spins beneath it. watch for the sheer daunting perspective on humanity and stay til the end as a time-lapse speeds up the spinning planet below.
